A&I Hall, Bangalow Wedding: Sophie & Dane

wedding party tiltshit

The greatest achievement in my life thus far has been to love you and be loved by you ~ Author Unknown ~

It poured with rain, but that did nothing to dampen the buzz excitement in the air while the house full of bridesmaids and the stunning bride prepared for the day ahead. 6 groomsmen, 5 bridesmaid and a brides-man, 3 flowergirls and 3 pageboys, the bride and groom + 120 friends and family squeezed into their wet weather ceremony venue; the A&I hall in Bangalow.

This beautiful little family became one and it made my eyes water as Sophie said her vows to Danes beautiful little girl Layla. Sophie presented her with a beautiful locket as part of the ceremony and it was such a beautiful moment of emotion I felt privileged to be there to capture these wonderful memories for them.

I promise to have your back when you fight with daddy over what Disney movie to watch and that no matter now many babies I have I’ll always love you like one of my own”

The rain stopped just in time for the bridal party and couple photos. We ended the day with a sweet little family shoot where Sophie and Dane had a sneaky little surprise photo where you can see all 4 of them hehe….

The happy couple set off to Thailand for their honeymoon and Sophie and Dane are now expecting their new bub in February 2018.

What would you like to say about me (Katrina Cram Photography?  – Absolutely loved the whole experience, Katrina is super easy to work with on the day and with organising everything, very very professional and the photo’s are absolutely incredible!! highly recommend!

The pin in my bouquet was my something borrowed from my mother in law, something blue was the hanky which is my grandmas. The other little pieces I didn’t wear but I got photos of was an angle pin from my 18th a brooch with my name from my christening and a 100 year old coin which was sent to me from my great grandma who I’ve never met in Croatia, the tradition is there is only a few coins in the family and the First Lady of each part of the family to get married gets one and I got the last coin. My mum, my great Aunty and my cousin has one. Because they were the first of their generation to get married. Super special tradition!”

RayBurn Farm, Sorell Tasmania Wedding: Emma & Sam

Tasmaina, katrina cram photography, country wedding, Tasmania wedding,

You don’t marry someone you can live with – you marry the person who you cannot live without ~ Author Unknown ~

I have known Em now for 7 years and it was an honour to capture her beautiful day. My Husband and I flew to Tasmania for Emma and Sam’s wedding and extended our stay for a holiday while we were there. I was so excited to photograph their big day, Emma and I had been talking about this day for many years and she always wanted a beautiful country wedding. She just needed to find the love of her life to share it with.

Enter Sam; wow..all I can say is that you are the amazing, kind hearted man that my beautiful Emma needed in her life. She deserves someone just like you and I’m so glad she found the man of her dreams.

The sun sets a lot later in February, so Emma and Sam decided to have a 5:15pm ceremony. We could then take advantage of the beautiful evening light and Em had all day to reflect and relax.

Her sister made pancakes for breakfast with a glass of wine and she was able to spend some time before getting ready in the paddock with the cows which calmed her nerves. Em also got to feed the ducks and watch the chickens scratch away and that’s the biggest thing she is able to remember, the serenity of the accommodation and having the time to do that before the rush began.
The intimacy of the wedding was just amazing, Emma says she wouldn’t have done anything differently. She loved the small guest list and the atmosphere. It was warm and inviting and she truly felt everyone present especially because she opted for an unplugged wedding.

With a country wedding theme, surrounded by the stunning landscape that Sorell; north east of Hobart in Tasmania offered, Emma said that everything just fell into place. Everything matched – like her garter was called Emma, and it was everything she wanted looks wise.

Both Em, her daughter Eva and bridesmaid wore cowgirl boots to match in with the theme. One of Em’s cousins made the ceremony alter doors and my husband and I created and hung the greenery arrangement. I used greenery from the surrounding gardens at the Farm house.

Emma and Sam decided on an intimate wedding ceremony where they had 14 of their closest family by their side as they said “i do”. The couple decided not to have a reception but rather a breakfast get together the following day.

Wedding Date: 17-02-2017
Ceremony venue: Rayburn Farm owned and operated by Brad Grattidge located on the Arthur Highway Sorell Tasmania – home of the Nonesuch distillery
Reception Venue: Didn’t Have One
Hair: Hair by Stephie – One of my Best Friends
Veil: JJ’s House
Makeup by ME – Emma Dorling makeup Artist and nails were done by 4Bidden Beauty in Queenstown

Invitations by ME: I made my own invites in a bid to cut costs and I think they came up really well.

Dress Designer or/and where you bought it from: Second hand – I got so excited once I was engaged that I could pick my dress. I started “dress shopping” to my disappointment I entered four bridal shops. All four bridal shops didn’t have my size, they catered for my size but didn’t have my size in store to try on.
What they expected me to do, was hold up a dress in front of my body 5 sizes smaller than me;  pick from that, and make a non refundable deposit of HALF the dress before you can order it. So you’re literally buying a $1,500 or $2,000 dress without being able to try it on. We all know dresses on can look completely different on to what they look like off.. so I wasn’t prepared to do this.

I looked on Wedding Tasmania Buy and Sell groups on facebook and a girl literally my size was selling her dress for $500.00.
She lived on the other side of the state to me so we measured ourselves to see if it was worth me to make the trip down to try the dress on, we were EXACTLY the same bust, waist, and height measurements. I made a date to view and try on the dress, and it was PERFECT. What made it even more perfect was she allowed me to pay it off.

Brides headpiece: Lovisa

Grooms Suits: Pants, Belt, Shirt, Shoes – Rivers Devonport Tasmania Store
Best Man: Pants, Belt, Shirt, Shoes – Rivers Devonport Tasmania Store
Page Boy: Pants – from Paul’s Warehouse in Hobart Tasmania, Shirt  from Torque Gear For Guys in Devonport Tasmania, Shoes from AH Pease in Devonport Tasmania.

Groom, Bestman, PageBoy Vest: I had to get these from Lloyd Attree & Smith a business founded in 1857 located in Wales. I could not for the life of me find a Donegal Tweed vest the colour I wanted anywhere In Australia. After many sleepless nights and a lot of research I had to buy the smallest men’s size vest for my 8 year old son. I had to have it practically remade by a Local Hobart Tailor. She was given the Vest 4pm the day before our wedding and she had it back to us on our Wedding Day, she was amazing.
Groom, Bestman, PageBoy Ties: Skinnytie

Cufflinks: were from Indigo Bark

Flower Girls Dress: Eva’s dress was from Arabella & Rose and my friend Claire at Mt Tamborine made Eva’s headpiece.

Flowers: Janita at Beautiful Flowers Gifts And Garden Bellerive Tasmania

Celebrant: Wendy Francis  Hobart Tasmania

Transport/Car Hire: Luckily enough we had Sam’s dad drive us in his 300c Black Chrysler which is also my favourite car.

Any special moments you would like me to share on the blog from your wedding day: A big thing for me was having both my Mothers at my wedding. My Biological Mum and my Adoptive Mum. Having my sister at my wedding was such a special moment for me. After thinking I would never be able to find or even meet my sister, having her attending my wedding was simply a dream come true for me.

This is not a special moment but special things I had for my wedding day was my something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue and a penny in the shoe: My something old was a brooch that belonged to my Great Nan Linda which I was given and it clipped onto my bouquet. My something new was my headpiece which I got from Lovisa, the Hobart store. Something borrowed was a hanky with a lace trim from a close friend – which belonged to her late mother, and my something blue was my garter. And the special thing for me on the day was the two pennies I placed in my shoe for good luck, they were made the year my Nan and Pop were born. The song we walked down the aisle with was Bless this broken road by the rascal flats and best of all our Wedding was under $5,000

How did you meet: Tinder!
We spoke for a few months before actually meeting. It felt to me like he was my best friend already even though we hadn’t actually met.
When we first met I was in Sam’s town (as we lived towns apart) and he wanted me to call in to his house on the way home from my uncles. I was a single mum. I looked like crap. My hair was in a messy bun – or what was left of it because most of it had fallen out while some of it was still up and had no makeup on. I stunk like baby spew because I had baby spew down the front of me and I was a wreck.

I declined his offer and suggested we could meet the next day while I was more presentable. He said he didn’t care what I looked like and he didn’t expect me to get out of the car, just pull up for a quick hello. Like a pre-meeting before the actual meeting. I thought “ah what the heck… it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t like me, nothing will come of this anyway”. My attitude was “it’s not so much whether he likes me but whether I like him”… so we met. I didn’t exit the car, the whole time I was there. When I pulled up into his driveway he came bounding out of the front door… down the steps like an excited little puppy. All I noticed was this MASSIVE grin. We spoke and laughed – and maybe flirted a little.
Then as I drove away – he text me “you are the most beautiful woman I have ever seen” I wrote back “are you blind? I mean – just look how I turned up to your house… I was a mess!!!” His reply “a beautiful mess” which carries on to this day.
From that day… he was my best friend, IS my best friend, we joke, we laugh, we make fun of each other… but most of all we love each other. A love I have never experienced In my life, and never thought I’d be lucky to have. 8 months after we met – we married. Some may say we are crazy, I say we know a good thing when it’s standing in front of us.

Where did you go on your honeymoon: We haven’t had one. We will but we will wait until the kids are older.

What would you like to say about me (Katrina Cram Photography)?
I suffer for BDD – A mental illness that effects the way I see myself. Since I was a little girl I imagined how my wedding would be… I had my whole entire wedding planned out and thousands of pictures saved on Pinterest… And seven years ago I knew who I wanted to photograph my wedding. KATRINA CRAM… All I needed now was a soul mate. My life hasn’t been easy, it’s been a roller coaster and because of this I’ve had a weight gain… then a weight loss, then a gain… and so forth. Due to my fluctuating weight my BDD flares up… not something I need at all… During one of my weight gains and BDD flare ups I met my soul mate. He loved me for who I am even though I’m unable to love myself. So we set a wedding date. Katrina was the FIRST person I booked. I live in Tasmania and knowing I had to fly her here made it all very exciting.
But, I was worried. A LOT… “I won’t like the images”. “I know Katrina is a very talented photographer, hence why I only want her to photograph my day, but I won’t like the images because I’ll be in them”. “It won’t be the fact I dislike her work but I’ll dislike me”. “I’ll ruin her work”. “I’ll ruin the images”. They were only some of the thoughts going through my head. I tried ridiculous fad diets leading up to the wedding, which stressed me out. The stress of the wedding stressed me out, and I ended up living off nuggets and pizza -.- I knew in my head – I had gained weight… and I knew it would in my eyes make the photos even worse than I imagined before. I lost sleep. “I won’t have images I can share on facebook” “I won’t have images I can put on my wall” I tried reasoning with my self over and over again.. “Emma is ok. If you get JUST one picture it’ll be ok. Just one decent picture of yourself… that one picture I can show people and put on my wall” I just knew deep down I wouldn’t be happy with myself getting married skinny while struggling wth BDD, let alone getting married “bigger” On the 17th of Feb 2017 I got married to my soul mate… with Katrina as my photographer… and the biggest I’ve ever been weight wise. – AND I LOOKED STUNNING!!! Katrina made me feel comfortable. Katrina worked so so damn hard to ensure id like my images – she made me feel and look beautiful. I only wanted 1 image. I would have been happy with just 1 image… She’s only given me a sneak peak of 11… Just to tie me over until she edits the rest… And I have shared those 11 on facebook and I have shown everyone.
I LOVE THEM.
I am just completely shocked… not at the quality of the work – because we all know her quality is outstanding… but the fact I look so damn good in them… she worked her little butt off to make sure I did look good and she succeeded!!! My expectations were just blown out of the water!!! We highly recommend Katrina Cram!!!
I couldn’t thank her enough! I don’t have enough gold, enough tears, enough love to give to her to show her how much she’s made me the happiest girl alive!!!
How much this means to me, I don’t even think she understands just how much this means to me!!! I love you Katrina

A wedding at T2 – Tallebudgera Valley: Ashlee & Tim

featured image ashlee and tim wedding rings

Love is a canvas furnished by Nature and embroidered by imagination” – Voltaire

Ashlee and Tim wanted something a bit different when it came to their wedding images. Diversity was the theme of the day. After a ceremony with family and friends at Lions park in the beautiful Tallebudgera Valley, we headed off to a very colourful nearby graffiti wall for a quick stop then on to T2 Tea at Robina.

T2 Tea is an Australia company that supplies tea and teawares to tea lovers around the world. I have never photographed wedding images in a shop before so it was a bit exciting as I love photographing in new places. I’d never been to the T2 shop before and when we got there I saw that it had orange hue’d and dimly lit; I wanted to maintain the ambience of the store so using flash was out of the question, luckily I had my trusty sigma art prime lens to do the job. We got to sample some of T2’s delights and then off to Pizzey park.

Pizzey park was another first for me with its towering pine trees and amber glow. The bridal party met up with us here for some fun and romantic images among the trees. As the sun went down we headed to the reception for the couples official entry as husband and wife where they had a Hungarian Langos pizza stall for their family and friends.

Ballina Wedding: Bianca & Scott

Ballina Wedding Biancia & Scott embraced with a tender kiss

Soulmates…two halves of the same soul joining together in life’s journey  ~ Author Unknown ~

Even though the clouds came over and the skies opened it did not dampen their big day. Bianca and Scott opted for their wet weather venue for their nuptials, the Ramada Hotel in Ballina as Boulder Beach Headland their first choice, was washed out. The Ballina coast is located in the Northern Rivers of NSW.  The couple met through their maid of honor and Bianca said that there were lots of happy tears on the day.

Claire (second shooter), myself and the wedding party set off to Boulder beach and headland where Scott carried his new bride down to the waters edge for some images then on to the Richmond River Lighthouse. Last on the list was the Ballina Wharf before heading to the reception. At the Wharf the wind had picked up by this time late in the afternoon and Scott relinquished his jacket to his shivering bride this made for some of our favorite images of the day.

Kingsholme Wedding: Sam & Chris

Kingsholme Wedding Sam & Chris beautiful ceremony

Once in awhile, Right in the middle of an ordinary life, Love gives us a fairy tale ~ Anonymous ~

Sam and Chris held their wedding ceremony and reception on a stunning private property hidden in the Gold Coast inner hinterland at Kingsholme, Queensland. Like a lot of couples Sam and Chris decide to take on the roles of wedding planner/decorator themselves.

I asked the couple a few questions about their wedding day.

How did you meet: “We met on RSVP and ending up having heaps of mutual friends, worked in the same building, and also lived on the same street!!

Where did you go on your honeymoon: “We went to Yamba, NSW, for a week. It was amazing.”

Is there any advice you you would like to share?:  “Although everyone tells you to do so, remember to take a deep breath, and take in the day around you. It will go very fast, and you need to remember the important reason you are there. To marry your best friend.”

“Katrina, you are amazing. Chris and I felt at complete ease from the very first moment we met with you. The photos you take are stunning and you made the day so much fun. I am so thankful that you were there to capture the day, as these images are all that we have to look back on from our special day.”

Wedding Day Tips

wedding day tips - a bridal sewing kit can be a life saver

wedding day tips

Wedding Day Tips

  • Make sure your getting ready venue is clean and tidy before we get there. Most of the time we (my seconder shooter and myself) will arrive and the room needs a little tidy, we then run around and make the bed tidy the bathroom and bedroom, kitchen basically anywhere we will be photographing and the clutter will be seen in the images. We don’t mind doing this but if you or your bridesmaids can do this before we arrive it will save time and we can concentrate on photographing your morning preparations.
  • If your dress is a lace-up its a good idea to have your bridesmaids practice this a few times before the day. I have laced up many dress’s over the years; again I don’t mind doing it at all, but I wont get these beautiful images of your bridesmaid doing up your dress.
  • Just like the dress, practice pining on a lapel corsage for your parents and the Groomsmen.
  • Decide on the position of your veil before the day of the wedding. If you are going to have an underneath position for your veil make sure you have the right veil comb, they are not all the same. If you are not sure just check with your hair stylist and see which way the comb sits and what hair style will suit it.
  • Have one of your bridesmaids put together an survival kit with panadol, bandaids, tampons, hollywood tape, babywipes, deodorant, safety pins, needle and thread the same colour as your dress and the bridesmaids dresses, lip gloss, spare hair pins, an extra corsage pin, mints, chocolate bar, tissues, a small amount of cash in coins and notes; you never know when you may need it, small scissors and tweezers. There are other items that maybe useful but these are the basics from the experiences that I have had.
  • Smile! don’t forget to smile…bridesmaids are the worst lol. Tell your girls and guys to SMILE when standing at the alter. I cant tell you how many images i have had to take of sad or grumpy bridal parties when all they have to do is smile. They don’t have to all the time but sometimes would be great 🙂
  • Stand in the center of the aisle. If you are off center your photos will be too.
  • If you want your guests full present at your ceremony consider an unplugged ceremony.
  • Avoid Looking at the Camera unless I  ask you to. This will give the impression that the camera is “invisible.”  Not looking at us will produce more natural-looking pictures.
  • Show off how much you love each other. Your images will be so much more amazing if you interact with each other. Look at each other, smile at each other show off your feelings you just married the love of your life.
  • If you are having us photograph your reception try and stay together at the reception as much as possible yes go and spend time chatting with family and friends but always seek each other out.
  • Dance together more then once. This is a must do if you want amazing dance images. Sometimes as photographers we can have a hard time trying to get the perfect shot of the two of you dancing as we don’t know what your lighting will be when we get there so if we are at the reception dance again at some point before we leave just in case. Even sneak off to have a private moment in the garden for an intimate dance or cuddle.
  • Also if we are there at the reception for the 8 or 10 hour coverage, I will most likely ask you if you would like to go and do some romantic night shots. We can only take so many images of people dancing and chatting. These can look spectacular if there are street lights or garden lights around. I can also bring my off camera flash kit.

There is so many tips I can share with you that will help make your day go as smooth as possible and to ensure you have amazing images. But the biggest tip i can tell you is to enjoy your day, it goes by so fast.

Have fun, smile and show your love.

This day I will marry my best friend, the one I laugh with, live for, dream with, love ~ Author Unknown ~

This gorgeous couple decided to do things a bit differently for their wedding day at Midginbil Hill. Anastasia and Josh started the day together choosing to have some images with the horses at the venue followed by a morning tea on the deck with the family and friends before heading to Cram’s farm for pre-ceremony drinks with their guests. The majestic Mt Warning in the background, Cram’s farm was the perfect setting for a ceremony filled with love. The couple also had a vodka shot during the ceremony as a toast to the brides Russian heritage.
